About Tamesha Hawkins: The New Jersey native attended Temple University where she majored in Elementary Education with concentrations in Theater Arts and Psychology. Maintaining a home away from home in Philadelphia, she devotes her time to working in the theatre profession, promoting literacy in Philadelphia public schools, and performing. Recently crowned The PBGP Poetry Slam Champion for 2009, Hawkins is excited that her work is taking shape in the community. Next, she is writing a one-woman showcase titled Beginning with Molasses, which will bring her poetry to life for the theater stage. After the completion of her play, Hawkins’ plans to leave the U.S. and journey to Japan to enhance her writing and Theater Administration knowledge. Confectionately Yours falls in step with debut work Sugar Lumps and Black Eye Blues by highlighting the author’s spirited phrase “even sugar can be raw”. Personal, political and passionate this journal of moments examines the triumphs, pitfalls and chaos of daily living with a pen and a notebook for social change. Documenting birthdays, holidays, campaign trails, Auld Lang Syne, Valentine, social causes to Santa Claus, May flowers and Spring showers with anticipation to find the natural saccharine of humanity. |

Alabama, from Alabama but not in Alabama anymore, sits by a fountain during the hottest day of the year, relaxing with his dog Tulip, the biggest dog you have ever seen. Depressed, lonely, and slowly losing his mind, Alabama finds himself talking to a teenage boy who he is pretty sure is not real. Torn between his desire to return to the comforting memories of Alabama or to embrace his complicated and painful reality, he finds momentary solace in the most unlikely of places.

An intense, 90-minute play centering on a young man who kidnaps his older brother and takes him on a grueling road trip to conquer his heroin addiction. Mile after mile their relationship is stretched to the limit as the two brothers' repressed memories and hidden motivations are mercilessly exposed. Hugging the Shoulder is a play about the tragedy of missed opportunities. It explores the relationship between addiction and love, and is a plea for us to do what sometimes is the hardest thing of all: to forgive ourselves.
